Today was the first HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout for the TurboFire program. Chalene is going easy on us! It was a short one- just 15 minutes. Anyone can do something for 15 minutes, right??Oh, but it's still tough. It was short 30-40 second bursts of moves where you go all-out as hard and as fast as you can... followed by a short 30-second or so break. Then you go again. With her technique, we did the same set of moves three times, then she taught another set. And so we did three sets of three intervals. Nine bursts in 15 minutes! And I was left dripping in sweat! Awesome!
I've always read about interval training, and how it was the best way to train... but never really knew WHAT to do. But with TurboFire- now I have the structure I need to get it done! And do it right! Just like how P90X & ChaLEAN Extreme taught me how to weight train properly, and how the Couch-to-5K program teaches me how to increase my running... this program will teach me how to do intervals. I can also use the intervals in my running, too.
Just because I knew I needed to get fit, and wanted to get fit.... didn't mean I knew HOW to get fit. These programs give me the instruction and pattern I needed to learn- to get it done, and get it done right. And best of all- effectively.
Anyway- my HR went from 130's in the warm-up into mostly the 150's through the workout. The highest I saw was a peak of 160. Not as high as yesterday's workout, but it's also because the bursts are so short with recovery time in between. Well, we'll see how it goes when I do the HIIT 30 eventually. Next week it goes up to HIIT20... so it'll only kill me slowly in 5-minute increases. LOL ;-)
Tomorrow is supposed to be a scheduled rest day.
Foods for the day:
P90X Recovery drink sipped through the workout (220 cal)
Late breakfast/Brunch: chocolate mint Shakeology (240 cal)
Lunch: grilled snapper & zucchini, cherry tomatoes and peach for something sweet (300 cal)
Snack: Snickers fun size (80 cal) (a hard boiled egg has just as many calories- and much healthier- did you know that? But I know- it's not sweet...)
Dinner: Dad wants to go to Furr's buffet... yikes
Here's the damage: spinach salad, liver, meat loaf, fish, sweet potato, carrots... then dessert of chocolate cake, cupcake and strawberry shortcake. (estimate 1000 cals)
It's really hard to estimate the buffet... it's always a bit of hit-or-miss, but close.
Breakdown for the day- 1844 cals
Carb: 47%
Pro: 26%
Fat: 27%
Fiber: 27g (need at least 25g/day)
Obviously too much fat for today!! Blame that on the buffet! So I'm aware of what's going in at least- instead of being in denial or oblivious. I will adjust it elsewhere so it won't do too much damage. I'm still not sure why- that although I really DO know better... I still like to sample so much while at buffets.
